Prototypes workshop 1.

After looking through the groups manifestos and deciding who we think we would work well with we got ourselves into groups. I was in a group with 3 others, as part of the workshop we had to discuss our top 5 employers / exciting commissions and where we would like to be in 10 years.

Top 5 Employers :

– Cath Kidson

– National Trust

– Liberty

– Greenpeace

As a group we struggled to put a point on exciting commissions but realised that we were all interested in design for educational purposes, and all had a desire to create physical objects not computer generated imagery.

We also decided that “In ten years we will be enlightened, modest and humble designers.”

After these initial discussions we made a prototype for a product called Swipe’n’Wipe. The idea for this product came from our shared frustration of being in a student house where we were always buying toilet roll but didn’t understand how it became depleted so quickly. The idea was that you’d have to swipe before you wipe so you could see who was using the most toilet roll therefor they should replace it sooner. We made a small prototype and it was really fun to think of a random product. (weather it would be viable or not.)
